First I want to say Thank you to all my families, you guys have endured some record breaking summer temps for your holiday portraits… and all of you have done it with great style and tons of patience.  Happy kids make for happy photography sessions and I really appreciate all the hard work you put into the session before you ever even see me.

After I finished this session I realized this is the first time, not counting my own crew, that I have photographed a family with three kiddos under the age of 5.  These kids were great, sweet and a lot of fun.  But the key is you kinda gotta let them do there own thing, give them 60% control of the session and see what happens, spend the other 40% of the session going for those “mom shots”.  I hope you guys love your images, you have a beautiful family and it was a privilege photographing them.

Well Howdy Miss Kallie… I so love when I get the opportunity to photograph the first girl, especially when she comes after a couple of pretty awesome big brothers.  Kallie laid on the drama, just as a princess should, but finally gave us this first shot (last) and I have to admit one of my favorites ever.  I adore her sweet nursery and what a fabulous natural light space, she had some of the cutest accessories I have seen, including the awesome pinwheel tree in the back.  Congratulation, Jake, Sarah, Clay and Cole your sweet new baby and little sister is  perfect in every way and such a lucky little girl.

I leave you with a few quotes about little girls.

I have the same goal I’ve had ever since I was a girl. I want to rule the world.
– Madonna

Little girls are precious gifts, wrapped in love serene. Their dresses tied with sashes and futures tied with dreams.

Little girls, like butterflies, need no excuse.

Something unexpected has come out of my photography business. When I started I thought how great it would be to get paid doing something I love, however I never imagined the strength in the friendships I would make. I will chalk a small portion of this up to facebook. (Because “literally” I gain a friend after each session) But in truth, through Photography, I have regained connections with friends who I haven’t seen since that last hug on the graduation field 16 years ago, I have made deeper connections with the families my children go to school with, those in my church community, and with total strangers whose friendship with me started with a phone number and a web address. All these amazing people have truly touched my life, because God gave me the gift of seeing the world in pictures.
So today as I post an amazing senior session, with the fabulous Julia, an “Angel” in more ways than one. I give this advice.
God doesn’t give a gift he won’t expect you to use,
If you find a lemon tree in your backyard, make lemon aid
If you see someone in need give them your last dollar
If a friend, hurts you, lies to you… forgive her
Prayer fixes everything, even if it just makes getting up off the ground a little easier
No matter how much you plan your life, God may have a different plan in mind for you.
It is not about who you are now as much as who you will be tomorrow.

I hope you love the sneak peek of your images as much as I loved making them! Have a fabulous Senior year!

You know that feeling when you meet someone and you know that for whatever reason, God has put them in your life… well that is how I felt about Tristian before I had ever even met her.

Tristian, designer of GracyLu original, has been blessed with this amazing gift and talent. She designs the most gorgeous hair pieces for brides, little girls, babies and for just regular gals who want to show their stuff. I could go on and on about her talent, and her business which is growing so fast. Last I saw she had over 2,000 fans on her facebook site. Which is as much a testament to her designs as the person behind them.

So aside from the fabulous original pieces she designs, she also has this amazing and very giving heart. She crusaded for everyone to know about sweet baby Layla Grace http://laylagrace.org/ who sadly lost her battle with cancer this past March. She brought this family into so many others through their prayers, that I know I will never forget this child or her story. She is an amazing Christian, who is endlessly proud of her faith and her love of God.
I am so fortunate to call her my friend.
Love you Tristian!

There is nothing like clients who show up excited to take pictures. Everyone was on board and happy to be there and boy does that come through in the pictures. I love that this family is so lovey dovey and happy to do their own thing. I got some fantastic candid shots where you can just see the love pouring through them. These are the images that will be cherished for a life time and I am so honored that you chose me to photograph your family.
This families precious daughter was my youngest daughters first best friend, and now that they are off at different schools, and will go months in between seeing each other, I hope they will always remember that magical time when they made their first best friend.

The second opportunity I have had to photograph a Senior in this amazing family.  Matt is a Senior at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory and is a fierce Lacrosse player.  Like most Senior guys having his pictures made is not at the top of his list for an afternoon of fun.  We were able to hit two locations and get some amazing shots in 45 min, with some really great grin and dimple shots for mom.  Hope you guys love your images as much as I loved creating them for you.

I am now booking Senior Sessions for the class of 2011, please call me as soon as possible to set up an appointment.  I will only have limited fall appointments (aug-oct) and will not be available at all the month of November, December and most likely January.

The great search, happened to begin on a beautiful Spring day beginning with  a long drive out of the suburbs through the city and out to the country.  The second thing that happened was total peace and awe,  it always amazes me how close you can feel to God and the beautiful things he has giving us, just leaving the clutter and chaos behind.  The red buds were in bloom, the grass was green, the cows seemed ridiculously happy in their pastures, Spring was defiantly in the air.

As I neared my bluebonnet spot from last year however, my hope that it was still there began to dwindle quickly.  It was my secrete spot, just a few miles beyond where the hordes of photographers sat photographing their little subjects just the spring before.  When I reached my spot it was indeed no longer there, construction had taken over the lovely location.  But luckily for me I had my friend with me, who encouraged me to continue on.

As we drove those hills we continued to see more glorious works of God, fields with little yellow flowers, and found this lovely state park, where we were able to find a handful of newly sprouted bluebonnets, some beautiful historic buildings and some precious images of my friends sweet two year old, who I think I have finally won over.

We ended our adventure with lunch at a local spot, big cheese burgers for both of us!

So my big girl turned 7 this month, really the time goes by so fast.  She is an amazing little creature, she is the only one in our family who literally pops out of bed with a huge smile on her face.  She is an artist to the core, she could spend hours with nothing more than a pencil and a note book, doodling her day away or writing stories.  We adore her, and so enjoy watching all these little milestones in her life.  Happy Birthday Sweet Girl.

When I found this field I had an ah ha moment.  I have been looking for it, seeking out the perfect field of gold, but after the stinky winter we had in this part of Texas I had all but given up hope, then out of no where as if God had planted it just for me, there is was.  You can expect to see a lot of “my field” in the near future.

Friends

As I sit here writing my blog, I am utterly exhausted, in a really good way!  One of my best friends in this whole world came for a visit this weekend with her husband and their son, who happens to be one of my husband and my sons best friends as well.  So how does this happen?  These amazing friendships that link not just one member of our family but three.  The back story is a little on the interesting side,  I met my husband in November of 1998, and it goes without saying that we obviously “hit it off.”  For our second date he asked me to go to Puerto Rico with him for his company Christmas party, and I boldly said “yes.”  Of course then the panic set in, but that is a whole other story, seriously who gets on a plane with a total stranger.. answer a 23 year old!  Upon arrival in Puerto Rico, I began to meet my husband’s work friends, and that’s when I met Ben, who I just think is the sweetest guy ever.  I spent considerable effort trying to set him up with another lady I had met there, she was fun and really into Ben, but like all men Ben had a stubborn side and did not appreciate my match making skills.  He went out on his own and met, this other girl.  I think I remember saying she looked like a bit of a tart!

Well from that moment on Ben was hooked on the tart, who really wasn’t a tart at all, and since Ben and my husband were on the same projects, they spent weeks together all over the country.  I really don’t remember the first time the tart, now known as Bobbie and I talked, because we have been friends from the moment we met, see she is this really amazing person, totally animated when she talks, youthful, with this really beautiful spirit, and she is a great friend..and she has tons of them, and always room for more.  She was a bridesmaid in my wedding, as was Ben (a groomsmen), we have shared Margaritas in Cabo while our babies slept under the cabana umbrellas, spent time with each other in San Antonio, Florida, and a few states in between.  We can go months without talking and pick right up where we left off, the sign of a true and forever friend.  And our boys, both eight, have been friends since birth and although months or more between visits for kids usually brings a separation or an unfamiliarity our boys run off to play like they live around the corner from each other not wanting to waste a minute.

So this visit marks the first time I have photographed them, and I was thrilled when Bobbie asked me.  I hope you love your pictures Bobbie and to my blog reader please check out my friend Bobbie’s upcoming book.  http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#!/pages/Baby-Golly/172656553561  I have read the rough draft and it is precious!

Come visit again soon, Love to you and the whole family!

It’s a bluebonnet play date!!!!

It has been so chilly this Winter it is hard to believe that very soon the hills of Texas will be covered in those beautiful bluebonnets we are so famously known for.  I loved shooting my bluebonnet clients last year, but in shooting them something tragic happened… I did not photograph my own children in those glorious fields of blue.  So initially I had decided not to offer bluebonnet portraits again this year, but realized that was selfish of me, all of my clients know what it is like to juggle, a job, family and the plethora of activities that accompany them.  So I have decided to let my friends and clients know, I am shooting my kids in the bluebonnets on March 27th (weather permitting) and I am inviting anyone who would like to join me.  I will not be charging a session fee, but I will be taking pictures and you can purchase anything I shoot off my a la cart price list or as digital files.  Unfortunately, I am going to max the group size at 10 kids, so I have time to shoot everyone.  In addition, I will need to make a scouting trip  either on the 22,23, or 24 of March to choose my location, if you have a little one at home and would like to make the trip with me, I would be glad to have you along, same deal… no session fee and prints can be purchased a la cart or as digital files.  Please enjoy this re post from last year’s field!
