knock, knock,….knock, knock, knock…! So what is all that knocking, it is the age of technology and it is literally beating down my “old school” doors. I have been getting a lot… maybe half of my clients who are wanting digital files and for the last year, I handled it a little begrudgingly… maybe a file here or there for Christmas cards, and the only all digital file sessions I did where for corporate work, they needed the files for their website design, not for a desk print for their wives, or themselves.. what can I say, they were pretty darn good pictures, they may be looking at themselves this very moment. To each his own, right? For me however it has been all about “control”, and probably not the greedy kind you are thinking about, but quality, I don’t want my images printed off some generic photo machine at the local corner store/pharmacy. I want every image I take to have my stamp on it, excellent quality and a print that people are going to say “Wow” about. So how did I find a balance, well first I have come to realize, that 1. my clients aren’t the kind of people who would print a 16×20 image at the corner store, and 2. The trust me, they know what I am talking about, and they want quality too.
So, I magically discovered a consumer lab right under my nose, that is calibrated to match the images I see on my computer screen, pretty amazing! I also realize that if I want my clients to get the best quality, I have to give them the best quality file I can create, no limitations, the same file I would use to order their prints. I have also come up with digital collections that are cost efficient for my clients and a way for them to have those images available to them forever. This way my clients will always have their pictures available for school projects, grandparents gifts, coffee mugs and t-shirts… things I don’t offer to my client. Not to mention, we are facebooking ourselves like crazy and loading pictures on those little iphone thingies!
Now, yes I am still offering prints, the same high quality, beautifully presented images I always have for all my “old school” clients. I have changed my pricing structure just a tad for 2010 and for a full copy of my 2010 pricing please email through the contact link on my website.
And for the next month with a paid session fee I am offering one free digital file per session. Just mention “Old School” when you contact me!
Welcome to age of technology…in case you have been hanging in my era!
And because I am a photographer and it would be unthinkable to post a blog without a picture, here is a shot of my almost 7 year old, from the last set of pictures I did for the Marta Locklear workshop in January!
